An independent voice for Bethnal Green West – launching the Ted4BGW campaign today
I’m Ted.
I’m a long-standing Bethnal Green resident, a father of four, a project manager for better public spaces, and a campaigner for safer streets. Now I hope to become a Tower Hamlets councillor for Bethnal Green West at the 7 May 2026 local election. I love Bethnal Green, but I want it to be even better.
I’m not someone who can sit back when I see a chance to make things better in my neighbourhood. A few years ago, I was a trustee at Weavers Adventure Playground and I led a successful crowdfunding campaign to keep the important summer holiday provision open. Since 2022 I’ve been campaigning to keep and improve the quieter, safer street schemes in Bethnal Green when the Mayor of Tower Hamlets wants to rip them out. At the moment, I’m petitioning the council to add more School Streets, so children and families across Tower Hamlets can have safer, more active school runs.
I’m lucky to have the energy, skills and support to lead these campaigns and if I’m elected to the council, I’ll be in an even better position to push for change.
We all know how important it is for our health and wellbeing to be active, but it’s not so easy to walk or ride a bike when the streets are busy with traffic. Across London and the country, more and more councils are bringing in schemes to make it easier to walk, wheel and cycle and I’m determined to see more of this in our neighbourhood.
Change can be a great thing, but it needs to have wide support. While you can’t please everyone all the time, it’s important that people’s voices are heard and considered. We also need to make sure our council tax money is spent carefully for the good of the community. I haven’t been convinced that Tower Hamlets council has been doing either of these things, partly because of complicated party politics. As an independent councillor, I’d be free to speak up for community priorities and challenge decisions that don’t seem to be in the public interest.
The first thing I want to do is listen. What changes do you want to see? What would make Bethnal Green a better place to live, travel around and work? Please let me know your thoughts.
And if you like the sound of the changes I want to make, please give me one of your votes next May.
Thank you!
